Ecotourism

The main objective of Pandanan Marine Technopark initiative is to restore the coral reef ecosystem which was destroyed by unresponsible human activities, such as fish bombing, use of cyanides, and coral mining. The restoration is required a lot of resources from budgets to human capitals. It is not only expensive but also need knowledgeable and skillful team members.  In the longterm, the initiative should be able to finance itself with or without limited supports from others. 

Ecotourism is one of the ways to make the initiave grounded to the local community by providing them financial benefits. They are educated, trained, helped, and empowered to run an ecotourism operation which enable them to generate income while supporting coral reef restoration programs. The ecotourism they run is based on coral reef restoration acitivties. 

Pandanan Community members are trained for SCUBA diving.

Recently, the Community (Pokmaswas Pandanan) has basic fascilities to run an initial ecotourism operation. They already have 5 set SCUBA gears with 9 unit tanks, 2 underwater cameras, a basic (garage) diving shop, 10 life jackets, 10 snorkel gears, and marketing channels through sosial media (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Website). They use a member owned boat to supoort short transportation from the beach to the dive spots or coral reef rehabilitation sites.
